Happy New Year!!!! To start off the first day of 2012 Chad and I went to the Fairfax flea market and picked up these vintagey frames to hang above our bed. I'm so happy with how it turned out!!! No matter how tired I am after a long day I am a big practicer in washing and moisturizing my face every night. That being said, I am all for finding new serums & creams. I first heard about Hyaluronic Acid on the beauty department. It's a molecule that is naturally created in the body and lubricates all different parts of it. Young skin is smooth and highly elastic because it contains high concentrations of HA, which helps skin stay healthy. As we grow older, the body loses its ability to maintain this same concentration in the skin. No need to worry ladies & gents (use it on your boyfriends too!) HA is now bottled and offered as a serum to apply topically on your skin. I just started applying this to my face night and mornings and it feels SO good! It instantly hydrates and wakes up your skin & reduces fine lines and wrinkles. Um score. I think I may have just have discovered the fountain of youth.

Now that your all educated on HA get your butt over to Whole Foods and get yours too!

I actually did this braid on Cassie and I think it turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself! We've been pretty obsessive lately with checking thebeautydepartment.com and this one is something similar to the waterfall braid which I posted a while ago on one of my favorites. It took a couple tries to get it right but its pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

One of my favorite Halloween/Christmas movies Nightmare before Christmas! One Halloween I carved a Jack pumpkin and it turned out really cool. I love how this series of pumpkins look with the oogie boogie man too!

I love this idea with the pieces of tree painted on all of the pumpkins and placed on the shelf.

I finally caved and bought the urban decay naked palette. It's constantly sold out at Sephora so when I went into Ulta Beauty and saw only one left I figured it was a sign. So far I have only used the colors sin, naked, and buck but I'm pleased with the results. I think its definitely worth the $48 dollars to have all your staple eyeshadow colors on one palette.

I've always been a believer in taking care of your skin, it's really not something anyone should neglect (that means you too boys)! I can not go to bed without washing my face and moisturizing everyday. I just started using Kiehl's products lately and I am really loving their Midnight Recovery Concentrate. I have always been a Shiseido girl when it comes to face products but this Elixir Oil is so nice (its like Moroccan oil for your hair)! You just apply a little bit on at night before your moisturizer and when your wake up your skin is baby soft and glowing (umm who doesnt want that?Seriously.. glowing!). The thought of putting oil on your face might sound a little scary but honestly this doesn't feel heavy at all and it absorbs into your skin right away. I was told that it also has anti-aging properties so it prevents and reduces those fine lines nobody wants. Win-Win. Highly recommend!

I'm wonderstruck, dancing around all alone

Oh. Em. Gee. The concert was amazing!! If I didn't love Taylor Swift enough already I love her even more now! Her performance was flawless, she looked gorgeous and had so much energy and charm. This wasn't just one of those concerts where its all dance sequences and you just want to dance and sing along to the artist, with Taylor every song had a story and she put on a show to go with it. She is really good at connecting with her fans and it looks like she is genuinely having so much fun!

The night was full of surprises! First Ellen Degeneres popped up on stage and hung out on stage playing the shaker while Taylor sang "Our Song" Ellen was totally mouthing all the words!

Then when Taylor was singing Back to December which every true fan knows is about our favorite werewolf Taylor Lautner. She changed up the words at the end and sung "This is for the boy from Michigan" haha my sister and I are such nerds we googled that real quick and of course it turned out that TL is from Michigan. (we also noticed Taylor was looking extremely teary eyed. I'm not sure if she always just gets emotional but she definitely looked like she was crying, although her voice didn't shake for a minute) Then when she moved locations for her next song who do we spot watching her center stage? Taylor Lautner himself! After the song she gave him a hug. Awwww I felt like I was watching a hit tv show on the CW! So the question is... are Taylor squared back on or are they just exes playing nice?!

The last surprise was when Superbass started playing and Taylor started rapping to Nicki Minaj! Out comes Nicki and performed with her!! It. Was. Epic!!!

So if you've really read this whole thing thanks! Last night was magical, enchanting, sparkly and sooooo much fun!!

Doing best to channel my inner Tswift Covergirl commercial haha. I'm usually not one for these silly jumping photos but while I was in Cancun with my family my mom wanted us to do these family portraits. The photographer kept making us stand and pose in the most awkward of positions it was pretty much as cheesy as you could get! But somehow when he told me to jump, as much as I wanted to resist.. Going Bright!

Every time I've wanted a pop of color this was my go-to top this summer. My sister who just came back from London said bright colored lips are all the rage there. I'm sure it has to do with the Fall 2011 fashion shows this year as the models were all wearing bright fuschias, reds, oranges and plums (Sonia Rykel, Ralph Lauren, Thakoon, Miu Miu.)

Today I went to visit the ancient ruins of Tulum right outside of Cancun. I'm not going to lie, I'm terrible at listening to tour guides talk about the history behind these types of things but I did enjoy looking at the gorgeous stone architecture and ocean backdrop setting. It's a surreal feeling to know that once upon a time this was an actual real city and not filled with tour guides, tourists, & ropes.

The biggest reward is giving back

Peace for the Children is a foundation started by Donald J. Pliner and Lisa Pliner. This summer they funded a summer camp for underprivileged kids who are all in foster homes. They were able take art classes and learned how to play instruments. Yesterday they put on a performance and showcased their bright & colorful artwork for all of us. To the kids surprise, Donald announced that they could all personally keep the instruments they learned to play this summer! I never expected to have a sense of reward in the simple act of giving back!

Last night Lisa Pliner walked the runway at the Nicolita show during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim 2012. All of the models including actress Adrienne Bailon and Real Housewife of Miami Adriana DeMoura wore shoes by Lisa for Donald J. Pliner. The bathingsuits were fun with lots of bright colors, stripes, bows and some subtle sparkle.

I think it's safe to say that Lisa stole the show! Having a total Carrie Bradshaw moment (minus the falling and becoming Heidi Klums fashion roadkill) she strutted her stuff down the runway and worked the crowd. Does anyone else have a cooler boss then I do?

My travel essentials

If you know me at all, you know that I travel a lot! Today I just landed in New York and tomorrow I will be off to Miami. These series of trips have inspired me to list my top 9 travel essentials that I always carry with me on the plane.

1. Bath & Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Anti-Bacterial Sanitizing hand gel. I am not usually a germ-a-phob but when it comes to planes and close quarters with tons of strangers.. this is a must. I like to use this one from Bath and Body works cause it smells so yummy!

2. Evian facial spray. This one is new addition for me.. Chad's Mom introduced it to me and I don't know why I didn't carry it around sooner! One spritz and you feel refreshed and rejuvenated! If your on a long flight or changing timezones this is a goodie.

3. Nivea Creme 1oz tin. Its the perfect size to slip into your purse and get through security with no problem. Flying makes my skin dry and this cream is extra thick and moisturizing.

4. Oversized hooded sweater. I always like to bring a cozy hoodie on board to keep me warm on those drafty planes and cover my eyes from those bright lights.

5. Colgate Wisps. So handy if your on a long flight! Its like a tiny little disposable toothbrush that you use once and throw away!

6. A good book. When I get tired of watching movies a book is a good distraction to pass the time. One I recently just finished is Water for Elephants.

7. Longchamp large tote. This tote is so versatile it can fit almost everything in it making it a perfect carry on. It also conveniently folds up and comes in lots of fun colors.

8. Burts Bees Lip Balm. My go-to chapstick. It works!

9. Ipod, Iphone, Ipad, basically the whole apple family... Bring it!

I have been on the fast track over the past few years and it feels like a whirlwind. It's fun to take a step back and look at my old work to see how I have improved and evolved as a designer. Sometimes looking back can be embarrassing and sometimes it can be sentimental. Its similar to that feeling when you see old photos of yourself when you were in highschool or however many years back and you just think.. what on earth was I thinking wearing that?!

As a designer it is important to have an identity and I think the same thing applies for when you are picking out your clothes everyday. Don't just dress up head to toe in the latest trend because you saw it that way on the mannequin.. find a way to make it your own and make it your signature!

Once upon a time I wanted to design dresses. Wedding dresses specifically. I thought I was going to be the next Vera Wang! ~~woah woah pump your breaks girl~~ What can I say.. I've always been a dreamer! I was going through my old sketchbooks and found some of my designs. I'm always a little embarrassed to show my old work because I feel like my sketching is always improving and my style is always evolving but maybe through other eyes you dont catch the flaws like I do :) Anyways, hope you enjoy. Who knows, maybe someday I'll transition into designing gowns.. but for now I'm loving the world of shoes!

New York has been so fabulous!! I finally got a chance to check out the Alexander McQueen Savage beauty exhibit at the Met and it was amazing. I spent three hours examining and appreciating every piece ... seeing his work in person is completely different then seeing it in pictures online and you really get a feeling of what he was thinking and where his mindset was when he was creating. I would've never known that some of the gowns that went down the runway were made of painted glass, striped clam shells or lined with real human hair!

After a lovely time at the Met we headed over to Central Park & had lunch at the boathouse. You can rent boats and go around the lake. Its super romantical, I would highly recommend it for you and your lovaaa. I would call it a good day!!

I'm back in the city!! I have been so terrible with updating lately, promise to post more frequently during my time here. Yesterday I decided to tried to blend in and look like a true New Yorker with the all black ensemble.... hahah looking at the pictures i guess there were a lot of tourists in town.

Love my new gifted Sperry Top-Sider boat shoes. It reminds me of Ralph Lauren / Audrey during her UNICEF days. This is a classic silhouette that I think both men and women should all have in their shoe wardrobe. Today is the last full day of my China journey and now its back to the states! :)

Happy May Day from China. Finally have been enjoying the day off after a long week of correcting shoes and visiting factories. Did everyone watch the Royal Wedding?! I thought it was fabulous! I adore Kate Middleton and the fact that she wore McQueen! I think she carries herself so well with such grace..I mean shes a princess now!!! Such a modern day fairytale.. *sigh.

I have some photos from India that I thought would be nice to share. This is where our shoes are embroidered and beaded. It's around 90 degrees and they work about 14 to 16 hours a day just to make one of these uppers. They all live together above. If you look at the last photo the ladder is where they go up and sleep. They only go home about two times a year for a few days at a time. Can you imagine?

Yesterday we shot the Fall 2011 Lisa for Donald J. Pliner line in LA. Lisa paired the shoes with a lot of chunky knit sweaters, glammed up Kardashian esque curls and ocassional ripped men! It's so fun seeing the shoes come to life from a sketch to a shoot and how much work and people it actually takes for that shoe to get there. Have you ever thought about how your shoes were made? I have a feeling some people think they just come out of a giant machine. But that is seriously not the case! Someone is sitting there marking up patterns, sewing the shoe, lasting the shoe, gluing the shoe (it goes on)...there are hundreds of hands that have touched your shoes before you bought and opened them out of that shiny little box. That might sound kind of weird.. but really its amazing and sometimes an unaknowledged art. So next time your sitting at your favorite shoe store (cough*Donald J. Pliner/Lisa Pliner*cough) comtemplating... are these shoes really worth paying for? Think about how much work and love went into making it! :)

Sorry for the lack of updates as you can see i'm still in Miami! Jonnathan Leila and I have been super busy trying to wrap up designing for Spring 2012. I have one more week here then it's back to LA and then off to China. We've been making the most of the time we have off here. Shopping and eating on Lincoln Road, Swimming at our pool & watching episodes of RuPauls Drag Race and Gossip Girl!

We work on Starr Island where our employer lives. The other day Leila and I were playing on a vacant property. We were on the docks and we saw a shark swimming right under us (and no it was not a dolphin)!!!! Unfortunetly it was the one time in my life where I wasn't carrying my flip, camera or phone so I had no way to document the proof!! Now no one believes us.. sigh.

Currently in Miami with my fellow designers! The past 4 days have consisted of trips to Olivers or Lincoln Rd. for breakfast/lunch/or dinner, morning workouts with gorgeous ocean views, hanging out on the dock to feed the fish, and hours and hours of sketching!
